Money Mentors Success Story―20 Years Strong

When the day comes that I can interview another client who has finished paying off their debt through Money Mentors, it sparks another bit of passion for financial literacy inside of me. There are no other stories that are better shared, better related to, or better understood by another Albertan.

Each success story has a special place in Money Mentors heart, which is easy to accomplish considering every story has its own unique happy ending.

How it starts

Getting a background on the amount of debt each person had accumulated and paid off is normally where we start. Those amounts range from $15,000 all the way to $50,000.

The reasons? Well, those seem to vary.

From frivolous spending on travel, job loss and even a lack of understanding that families were overspending, these stories provide hope to others who are going through a similar financial struggle.

One interview I’ll never forget was with Dave & Marilyn who paid off over $30,000 of debt in their seventies.

When Dave said, “They saved our financial lives” near the end of the interview, you could hear the relief fall off each word he spoke.

What we do

As you know, Money Mentors is a not-for-profit, meaning that every piece of advice that we offer you is unbiased and completely honest. All of our services are free, and all of our counselors truly care about the well being of each and every Albertan and their financial health.

Many of our success stories are clients who completed the Orderly Payment of Debts (OPD) program after a good solid review of their money situation.

Chris, who paid off over $40,000 of debt, said it best:

So many things can change in that time,” said Chris, who went through two career changes, a new vehicle and a marriage while on the OPD program. “Katherine was able to help me figure out those things financially.

Focusing on the future

Much like our clients who come out of their program debt-free and start to focus on a brighter financial future, Money Mentors’ focus on the future is just as bright.

After 20 years of operation, we are ready and willing to continue to help Albertans get a handle on their money and share the debt-free feeling that can only be described as indescribable.

From desperation to joy is a pretty amazing journey,” said Lyndon, who paid off over $16,000 of debt through the OPD program.

And that’s what it’s all about. Turning a situation that seems impossible into an accomplishment and a success for you to move forward with.
