What to do when someone steals your identity
If you are, or suspected to be, a victim of identity theft or fraud and are wondering what to do when someone steals your identity, it is advised by the Government of Canada to file a report with local authorities and/or to follow the steps below:
- Contact your local police force and file a report.
- Contact your bank/financial institution and credit card company.
- Contact the two national credit bureaus and place a fraud alert on your credit reports.
