Director of Financial Education

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Job Overview

The Director of Financial Education provides visionary leadership to advance Money Mentors’ financial education strategy across Alberta and beyond. This role focuses on expanding the organization’s reach through innovative, impactful financial literacy programming for employed and self-employed Albertans and Canadians, Orderly Payment of Debt clients, and the broader communities we serve. The Director drives strategic partnerships, oversees curriculum development, and ensures all educational initiatives align with organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Development

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to position Money Mentors as a leader in financial education.
  • Identify, build, and manage partnerships with key stakeholders, including employers, creditors, government, community organizations, and self-employed individuals.
  • Champion Money Mentors’ services — including financial education, non-profit credit counselling, and the Orderly Payment of Debt (OPD) program — to external audiences.
  • Seek new funding and revenue opportunities to sustain and grow financial education programs.

Program Oversight & Delivery

  • Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of financial literacy workshops, webinars, eLearning modules, and community presentations.
  • Ensure offerings are evidence-based, engaging, and tailored to diverse audiences, delivery formats (in-person, online, print), and accessibility needs.
  • Stay abreast of personal finance trends, tools, and regulatory changes to ensure programming remains current and impactful.

Curriculum & Resource Development

  • Lead the creation and continuous improvement of curriculum, eLearning content, and interactive tools that drive measurable learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal experts and external partners to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment with best practices in financial education.
  • Establish and oversee processes for regular review and updating materials to reflect the latest financial trends and consumer needs.

Impact Measurement & Reporting

  • Develop KPIs and reporting frameworks to measure the reach and effectiveness of financial education initiatives.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to the executive team, funders, and the Board of Directors on program outcomes and opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: diploma or degree. Certified Educator in Personal Finance and/or Accredited Financial Counsellor certificates are acceptable.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching and facilitating, or finance.
    • At least 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
    • Proven record of successful business development.
    • Strong presentation and public speaking skills with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
    • Knowledge of personal finance topics.
    • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet targets and deadlines.
    • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for virtual education and outreach.

Requirements of the Role: occasional travel required.

Location of Role: remote.
