Technical Writer - Calgary (Contract)

Money Mentors is recruiting for a 2-month contract Technical Writer based in Calgary and reporting to the Manager of Operations. We are searching for a self-motivated, experienced Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our services. As an ideal candidate, you have proven experience in a technical field, with an ability to work collaboratively to build strong working relationships and influence outcomes to ensure high-quality deliverables. Your interpersonal skills include a positive attitude with exceptional patience, diplomacy, and the ability to listen.

You will be responsible for assessing our current processes to develop a comprehensive and user-friendly operations manual and internal documentation outlining Money Mentors’ business processes for the Orderly Payment of Debts (OPD) program, managed exclusively by Money Mentors on behalf of the Government of Alberta. The manual will serve current and future staff members. Content must be visual and easy to follow. Work within the document management system and templates to create and update client-focused user documentation including processing legal paperwork for the OPD program, client communication, stakeholder communication, data entry, accounting, reporting, and other procedural and technical documents.

The position will start as a 2-month contract with the potential to be extended as required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with our internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of our services and the documentation requirements to record our existing systems and processes
  • Research, outline, write new and edit existing content to produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
  • Independently gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write a modern procedure manual that links all of our processes together in a user-friendly way
  • Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation and using our branding guidelines
  • Assess existing processes for improvement and develop new processes as required
  • Apply technical writing best practices (document layout, active voice, sentence length, and structure)


  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field
  • 2-4 years’ industry experience as an effective technical writer
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand business processes
  • Previous experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop graphics using software as required
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with an eye for detail
  • Knowledge of insolvency is considered an asset but is not required
  • Previous software development experience is considered an asset but is not required
